Khonghampat residents grappling with flood

The continuous rainfall that was experienced in the state since May 28 has caused severe damage to houses and crops in different parts of Khonghampat GP .
As a result, numerous residents are enduring the impact of flooding.
The recent rainfall has caused flooding in many areas particularly Khonghampat GP ward numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 .
In ward number 7, eight houses have been inundated, with two of them completely destroyed by floodwaters.
According to a statement issued by Khonghampat GP chairpersons W Chandrakumar Meetei, a total of 165 individuals from 81 households in Khonghampat ward No 1 are seeking shelter at a relief camp established by KYC club at Khonghampat Awang Leikai community hall.
Additionally, approximately 59 houses in ward number 2 have been flooded, impacting around 2000 chickens, 1200 ducks, 10 pigs, and various agricultural farms.
Consequently, 270 residents from the ward are currently accommodated in the local community hall and primary school.
The release further informed that floodwater has affected four houses in Khonghampat Mantri Leikai, prompting numerous individuals to seek refuge at the Panchayat office.
Furthermore, approximately 500 bags of fertilizer stored at the Khonghampat GPL Co-operative Society Limited warehouse have been rendered unusable.
