Kakching, August 29 2026: Farmers of Keirak, Tejpur, Lamjao, Laimanai, Langmeidong, Wabagai and Hiyanglam staged a demonstration at the Sekmai Barrage Keirak urging authorities concerned to close the barrage gates and supply water to the fields.

During the demonstration, the farmers alleged that the gates of the barrage over Sengmai river have been opened allowing the water to flow downstream freely and depriving the farmers of vital irrigation water.

While the farmers were holding a public meeting, Wagabai AC MLA Usham Deben arrived and looked into the situation.

Hearing the pleas of the farmers, the MLA instructed the authorities concerned to close the gates of the barrage and provide irrigation water to the fields in the region.
