Kakching, June 29 2026:
As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Assam Rifles organised an Anti-Drug Awareness Programme at Sora in Kakching district on Monday to promote a drug-free society.
The programme was conducted in connection with the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, with the objective of strengthening community participation against the menace of drug abuse through collaboration among security forces, civil organisations and local communities.
According to a release issued by IGAR (South), the event witnessed participation of 164 people, including 113 students from General English School and Royal Brighter Academy, eight educators, 11 local youths, 29 villagers and three local police personnel.
The awareness programme featured an interactive session led by Assam Rifles personnel along with representatives of three anti-drug non-governmental organisations.
The session focused on the harmful physical, mental and socioeconomic impacts of substance abuse.
The discussions laid special emphasis on early intervention and the pivotal role of youth in promoting healthy lifestyles.
By educating the gathering on the legal and social ramifications of trafficking, the drive successfully channeled a shared sense of civic responsibility.
The program concluded with a collective pledge by all attendees to maintain community vigilance, dismantle local drug networks and foster a safe, resilient environment across Kakching.
