MSFDS condoles demise of Ibeni Devi

Imphal, August 26 2026: The Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) has deeply mourned the passing of veteran film and theatre artist Huirem Ongbi Ibeni Devi (82) .

Ibeni Devi, wife of late popular theatre artiste Huirem Motilal known for his portrayal of a disabled character in the play "Makhoisu Meeni", passed away on Tuesday at her residence at Yaiskul Hem Hanba Leikai.

Besides acting in numerous theatre productions, she appeared in milestone films of the celluloid era of Manipuri cinema including "Yairipok Thambalnu" and "Madhabee" .

Her work reflected the dedication of a generation of artists who shaped Manipuri performing arts.

She was mother of late popular film actress Laimayum Ongbi Huirem Seema.

A cancer survivor, Ibeni Devi had been in declining health for three to four years and was bedridden in recent times.

MSFDS said her demise is a profound loss to theatre and cinema and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
