According to Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College Students' Union president Arambam Rabindra, the government music college has been facing acute shortage of teachers of various subjects for a protracted period.
There are four teachers for Vocal subject at present with process for appointment of another for the same subject underway.
On the contrary, there is only one teacher for Guitar, Tabla and Flute (Bashi), which the college authority had been feigning ignorance instead of doing the needful for appointment of adequate teachers for the said subjects.
Though practical classes are done for one hour, theory classes are never conducted.
Even though an understanding between the union and relevant government officials had been reached for addressing shortages in the college, the principal refused to endorse the agreement.
In view of such situation, the union even launched protest to save the college, Rabindra said and urged people to hold public discussion to ensure longevity of the college.
