NIT, IBSD directors call on Governor

Imphal, June 25 2024:
National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur director professor D Somayajulu along with two others called on Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan, here, on Tuesday evening and highlighted various developmental initiatives taken up at the institute.
In a release, PRO Raj Bhavan conveyed that the team informed the Governor that altogether there are about 1200 students studying in the institute, of which 50 per cent are from Manipur.
They also apprised her that the institute has been facing problems as there is no permanent campus, but steps have been taken up for the establishment of the same in an area of 341 acres.
A detailed project report (DPR) has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Education and an expert team also constituted.
The central team will visit and assess the current status of the institute including the existing infrastructure and once the project is approved, the construction work will be started at the earliest.
The team then requested the Governor for providing adequate security coverage to the institute.
The Governor, while appreciating the role of the institute in providing higher and quality education to the students, assured the team of extending her fullest cooperation in the development of the technical institute.
Meanwhile, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal director professor Pulok Kumar Mukherjee along with two officials called on the Governor at the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday evening and invited her to attend a programme slated to be held on Wednesday at the institute, the release said.
The team highlighted how the institute is spearheading in tapping and nurturing the rich biodiversity especially medicinal plants in the state.
The Governor accepted the invitation and asked the visiting team to initiate training programmes on medicinal plants so that people in the state can utilise its full potential, if further mentioned.
