Governor vows world-class sports facilities, quality training

Praising Manipur's rich sporting legacy, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Tuesday expressed delight that the state has been consistently producing world-class athletes rightly earning the title of 'powerhouse of sports in India'.
As chief guest of the Shannaroishingee Numit (Players' Day) celebration held at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium, Ajay Bhalla noted that the day is being observed in recognition of the dedication and hard work of the state's sportspersons and to encourage the spirit of sportsmanship that defines Manipur's athletic community.
Highlighting initiatives to nurture sporting talent at the grassroots level, the Governor reiterated the government's decision to develop playgrounds in all villages of the state under the 'Khungang Ama Sanabung Ama' (One Village, One Playground) scheme.
Declaring the government's commitment to providing world-class sports facilities and quality training, for the youth, he stressed that establishment of the National Sports University in the state to promote sports education in fields such as sports sciences, sports technology, sports medicine, sports journalism, sports management, and sports coaching underscores government of India's endeavour to tap the sporting talents in the state in particular and the nation in general.
Further informing that the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports has been implementing a coaching programme named - Regular Coaching Centre (RCC), in 24 sports discipline since 2002, the Governor also congratulated all the medal winners, participants, coaches, trainers, sports officials, and parents of the players who have played a vital role in shaping the careers of the athletes.
As a part of the celebration, Veteran sportspersons of the state who had brought laurels to both Manipur and the nation were felicitated with presentation of gifts.
Among others, chief secretary Prashant Kumar Singh and Olympian Kshetrimayum Thoiba Singh also attended the event organised by the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports.
