Sit-ins, rally decry Jiribam massacre, AFSPA

A silent sit-in demonstrating was staged by medical students, nurses and people in various fields under the aegis of Taragi Cheishu (TC) at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai community hall on Saturday against the 'Jakuradhor Massacre' in which Kuki militants took hostage and brutally killed three women and three children.
During the sit-in organised in association with TC wings of JNIMS, RIMS, and CAU, Imphal Naga Peoples' Forum, Core Committee on Relief & Rehabilitation Manipur, CFJM, MUTA, JNIMS TA, Shija AHS, TNA JNIMS, AANTS JNIMS, IPA, UPAM, MCDA, SOULS, NUPI and AMMU, the participants held placards with slogans such as 'Nd violence against children & women', 'Stand up for voiceless and fight for the innocent people', and 'We want peace', among others.
Speaking to media persons, Taragi Cheishu chairman Khaidem Mani clarified that the protest is not against or for the state government but in con demnation against the vicious killings of women, children and innocents in the state.
Denouncing the 'Jakuradhor Massacre' of slaying three women and three children including an eight-month old baby after abduction, killings of a woman farmer in Saiton, a Hmar woman and other Innocent people in Jiribam, he strongly decried violence against innocent civilians by armed groups from any community.
Mani further appealed to all concerned not to cause harm to women and children, while asserting that the 'Jakuradhor Massacre' is an Outright act of terrorism.
Any organisation indulging in such activities should be declared unlawful organisation and justice delivered to victims of such incident, he demanded and also called for withdrawal of the centre's recent decision to re-impose AFSPA 1958 in areas under six police stations.
Meanwhile, a rally was taken out from Lamjao to Keirak in Kakching district on Saturday protesting the Jiribam killing and re-imposition of AFSPA.
The rally organised by Khunnai Kahba Meira Paibee Apunba Lup-II, Kakching District United Clubs' Organisation, Manipuri Students' Federation-Kakch-ing District Committee and All Manipur Women s Voluntary Association, Kakching started from Lamjao Mayai Leikai and intended to march towards the Kakching DC office.
However, it was intercepted by a police team under Kakching SSP Thokchom Vikramjit at Keirak.
The participants held placards and chanted slogans such as 'We condemn killing of six innocents at Jiribam', 'Killingof women and children is terrorism act', 'Punish those involved in the Jiribam killing', 'Manipur's integrity cannot be compromised', 'AFSPA is a colonial law & should be obliterated', 'Indias divide and rule policy should be stopped', 'Do not obliterate Manipur', and 'Repeal repressive and draconian law AFSPA 1958', among others.
On the other hand, All Manipur United Club's Organisation, Manipuri Students' Federation, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur and All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association announced launched of various agitations until AFSPA is repealed from the state.
