RIMS observes World Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Week

The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, observed the World Antibiotic Resistance Awareness Week 2024 from November 18 to 24, under the theme "Preventing Antibiotic Resistance Together" .
Organised by the Antibiotic Stewardship Committee, RIMS, the event highlighted the pressing need for collective action to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
A statement issued by RIMS media pell informed that the week long observance was inaugurated by, medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib at the OPD waiting lounge of the hospital.
In his inaugural address, Prof Sanjib stressed that antimicrobial resistance is a present-day crisis requiring immediate attention.
"This week serves as a reminder for health professionals, policymakers, and citizens to work together and take proactive steps to preserve the efficacy of antibiotics," he remarked.
Adding to the discourse, RIMS department of medicine professor Dr T Jeetenkumar Singh emphasised the critical role of hygiene, vaccination, and early diagnosis in reducing dependency on antibiotics.
He advocated for the adoption of the One Health approach, which integrates strategies addressing human, animal, and environmental health to tackle AMR.
The observance included a range of activities aimed at spreading awareness about the dangers of antimicrobial resistance.
These included a Slogan competition under the theme "The rising menace of antimicrobial resistance: Our responsibility towards mitigating the global health emergency," awareness functions, and a poster campaign on the theme of the week.
Prizes and certificates were awarded to winners Of the slogan competition, recognizing their contributions to the initiative.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from key officials, including the deputy director (administration), principals of Dental College and College of Nursing, heads of departments, nursing officials, staff, and students of RIMS, Imphal.
The week-long campaign served as a platform to reinforce the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing antimicrobial resistance, reflecting RIMS' commitment to safeguarding public health, the statement added.
