Awareness stressed to prevent child trafficking

Thoubal, August 23 2024:
District Child Protection Unit, Thoubal in collaboration with district administration organised one day awareness programme on 'Child trafficking, child labour and JJ & POCSO Act' at counting hall of the Thoubal DC's office on Friday.
The programme was attended by Thoubal deputy commissioner Ahanthem Subhash Singh as chief guest, District Child Protection Officer, Thoubal Robindro Salam as president and Thoubal additional SP N Suraj as guest of honour, while Manipur University assistant professor Dr Sapam Dilipkumar spoke on the topic 'Child trafficking and child labour' and advocate Thiyam Rajkishore on the POCSO Act and JJ Act as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion, deputy commissioner Subhash stressed that as child trafficking and child labour is a serious offence and cases of reported occasionally, the public, especially parents and guardians, should maintain top vigil to prevent entrapment of their wards by nefarious elements.
If some agencies or people approach with proposals of better education of their children in other states or assures material benefits, they should ascertain authenticity of the agency or person with the department concerned, he advised, while stating that the department should take immediate action in coordination with police in case any incident occurs.
