DC's office stormed to protest rice snub

Imphal, June 23 2021: Beneficiaries of National Food Security Scheme of Kakching Wairi Mamang and Sabal Leikai stormed the office premises of DC Kakching on Wednesday demanding full benefits under NFSA.

According to the protesters, they had met the DC multiple times over the issue and submitted memorandums on May 29 and June 10.The DC assured to resolve the issue by June 19 but no steps have been taken up so far which is why they carried out the protest.

Kakching district police detained 13 women to disperse the protesters and they were released later.

On the other hand, DC Thoubal has issued an order on Wednesday instructing FPS agents in the district to ensure provision of full benefits under NFSA and PMGKAY.

The order also mentioned that AAY beneficiaries are entitled to get 35 kg of rice while each member of priority household card holders is entitled to get 5 kg of rice at the rate of Rs 3 per kg under NFSA.
