Kakching, August 22 2024:
Wabagai MLA and Manipur Pollution Control Board chairman Dr Ush-am Deben accompanied by Kakching deputy commissioner Rohit Anand, SDO Mayengbam Ingocha, Keirak Wabagai Zilla Parishad Administrative Committee member Salam Dhanabir and others visited flood affected areas in the constituency on Thursday.
On the sidelines of assessing condition of farmland, fish farms and residential areas of Keirak Awang Loukoi, Wabagai Tera Urak, Mairenbam and Wabagai Thingel Leikai, etc., which are reeling under flood waters, Dr Deben noted that incessant rainfall in the past few days and rise in water level breached banks of the Sek mai/Shengmai river, which flow through Kakching, Keirak and Wabagai, consequently inundating numerous farmlands and fish farms in area under Keirak and Wabagai gram panchayats.
Acknowledging damage caused to standing crops and fish farms, the MLA assured all possible assistance to the affected people from the side of government on the basis of damage report compiled by the district administration.
The MLA further appealed to the public to support in strengthening the embankments with soil to prevent floods.
MLA Deben also asked the public not to encroach on river banks and suggested that those owning land close to the river to part with some of their assets to facilitate expeditious fortification of vulnerable embankments.
