Orientation prog on PM Vishwakarma scheme held

An orientation programme on the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma (PMV) Scheme, along with the on-boarding of Gram Pradhans (chairmen/secretaries), was held on Tuesday at the Multi-Purpose Hall near Mini Secretariat Complex, Senapati.
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme, a central sector initiative under the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), aims to provide holistic end-to-end support to artisans and craftspeople, help them advance in their respective trades and improve their economic status and quality of life.
The event witnessed active participation from block development officers, and approximately 220 chairmen and secretaries representing Purul, Song Song, Willong, Paomata and Tadubi blocks.
During the programme, Panii Ngaonii, sub-divisional collector (SDG), Senapati, gave an overview of the PMV scheme and explained the vital role of the village chairmen in its implementation.
He provided a detailed presentation on the step-by-step procedures on the implementation of PMV scheme through PPT and addressed the delay in its rollout within the district, citing technical issues related to the online portal.
The SDC urged the Gram Pradhans to thoroughly understand the eligibility criteria and ensure accuracy while submitting applications.
He also encouraged them to raise awareness within their communities to maximise the scheme's benefits.
Rita Misao, general manager District Industries & Commerce, Senapati and Kangpokpi, elaborated on the objectives of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, which was launched by the Prime Minister to empower artisans and craftspeople who rely on manual skills and traditional tools.
She highlighted the 18 trades covered under the scheme, which include: carpenter, boat maker, armourer, blacksmith, hammer and tool kit maker, locksmith, goldsmith, potter, sculptor (idol maker, stone carver, stone breaker), cobbler, mason, basket/mat/broom maker/coir weaver, doll and toy maker, barber, garland maker, washerman, tailor, and fishing net maker.
She also briefed the attendees on the eligibility criteria for skilling and the toolkit incentives provided under the scheme.
Nenia Florence, lead district manager, Senapati, spoke on the financial aspects of the scheme, outlining the responsibilities of the beneficiaries and clarifying that those who successfully complete the application process would be eligible for subsidised interest rate loans.
She encouraged village authorities to reach out to her office for any financial literacy programmes and emphasised the importance of community education to prevent malpractice in the loan process.
The programme concluded with the biometric on-boarding of village chairmen and secretaries to the PM Vishwakarma portal (Stage I), conducted block-wise in coordination with the Common Services Centres (CSCs) .
