NPO, CoTU strike deal for safety of Nagas

Senapati, November 21 2024:
In the backdrop of certain misunderstandings between Senapati-based Naga People's Organisation (NPO) and Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Kangpokpi, an emergency meeting held at the former's office here on Thursday concluded with signing of a memorandum of understanding.
Representatives of both sides agreed to collectively work for realisation of various aims and objectives to maintain, safeguard and promote a genuine atmosphere between the two communities.
As per the terms of agreement, there shall be no harassment of Naga commuters in Kuki dominated areas, no tax to be imposed/levied on Senapati Naga trucks, traders, commercial goods or commuters.
However, if any issue arises related to taxation, CoTU will intervene and take full responsibility to resolve it, specified the deal, adding that any violation of the agreement will be addressed in accordance with the severity of the offence.
In case of any issues affecting any community, both the parties also committed to provide full assistance and taking responsibility for resolving them.
The agreement was signed by NPO president H Kuba Peter, general secretary M John, and CoTU chairman Thanglen Kipgen, and secretary Lamminlun Singsit.
