Imphal, October 21 2024:
Amid untold suffering of the people due to the conflict situation, the demand for removal of incumbent chief minister N Biren as raised in the joint letter of 19 BJP MLAs addressed to the Prime Minister, is simply the most preferred demand of the Kukis, pointed out Peace and Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) Khundrakpam AC and Neighbouring Village president Leimapokpam Joy Singh has stated.
Addressing the media at Manipur Press Club here on Monday, Joy said that since the conflict broke out on May 3 last year, over 200 people have been killed and thousands forced to live in relief camps.
Even now, there are reports of intermittent attacks by the Kuki narco-terrorists in the periphery areas and in Jiribam district as well.
As such, various CSOs of the state along with the people have been trying to restore peace and stability in the state.
It is the belief of the people that the politicians would keep aside their differences and interests, and keep the bigger picture in mind.
However, it has recently been reported that around 19 MLAs including ministers submitted a memorandum to the PM, requesting for removal of the CM.
It is not known whether the demand memorandum even mentioned the core issues of the people, he remarked.
Stating that the idea of replacing the CM is simply endorsement of the Kukis' demand, Joy urged for putting the responsibility of replacing the CM on the people.
If the MLAs are more interested in playing political games amid such a serious situation, they should clarify themselves to the people, he asserted.
