Foundation celebrates 18th anniversary

Disable Foundation Association, Manipur celebrated its 18th foundation day at Wangkhei Durga Puja Lampak community hall on Sunday with Persons with Disabilities, Manipur commissioner Waikhom Birhari Singh, Social Welfare deputy director L Dhaneshwar, CRCSE Imphal director N Khoibi Singh, DDM advisors Dr Kiran Yendrembam, Dr Md Wahajuddin and Golmei Paosing as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Waikhom Birhari urged all differently-abled people to apply for the UDI certificate which would enable them to access various welfare schemes and benefits provided by the central and state governments.
If any individual is denied their entitled benefits, one may approach the Commission concerned, which will then approach the court to take action, he said while disclosing that the Social Welfare Department has compiled a record of around 354 PwDs staying in various relief camps and extended them assistance wherever required.
In his speech, N Khoibi urged for learning and understanding the PwD Act and stressed the need for conducting a survey to ascertain whether the various NGOs are working for wellbeing of the PwDs or taking undue advantage of people with disabilities to receive huge grants/funds.
During the function, seven motorised cycles were distributed to select beneficiaries.
