Training on plastic waste management held

Manipur State Branch of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) in collaboration with the Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) organised a one-day training programme on plastic waste collection and management at the MG Avenue office of IRCS Manipur, on Monday.
According to a statement of IRCS, the training programme was attended by state chairman Narendra Ningomba, PHED state coordinator and Swachh Bharat Mission nodal officer RK Somion, and state consultant Bisken as members on the dais.
In his address, Narendra Ningomba attributed severe environmental impact to irresponsible plastic waste disposal, and stressed the urgent need for effective management strategies.
He called for exploration of recycling methods that could convert plastic waste into income-generating products, thereby improving the economy while maintaining a clean and safe environment.
He urged the participants to stop littering and dispose of plastic waste responsibly.
During the training, various methods for recycling plastic waste and creating decorative items were demonstrated to volunteers from IRCS units in Senapati, Thoubal, Kakching, Bishnupur, Imphal East, and Imphal West districts.
The hands-on session aimed to equip participants with practical skills to manage plastic waste effectively in their communities.
