Imphal, May 15 2024:
Climate change is one of the contributing factors in the breakdown of a family, said Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) member Kangjam Khagendra.
Speaking as chief guest of the observance of International Day of Families jointly organised by MHRC and Department of Law under the theme 'Families and Climate Change' at the conference hall of Department of Chemistry, Manipur University on Wednesday, Khagendra continued that the importance of a family and familial relationships amidst globalisation is increasing day by day.
The breakdown of a family will first affect the society, followed by the state and the country.
Thus, the International Day of Families is observed on May 15 every year to emphasise the importance of a family in the society, he stated.
Presided over by Department of Law head Dr Yumnam Premananda, the observance was also attended by commissioner (Law) Nungshitombi Athokpam and Department of Chemistry head Prof N Rajen as guests of honour.
