Imphal, January 13 2026: In continuation of their ongoing agitation, the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) organised ahuman chain at Pangei Keithel in Imphal East today.

Students, womenfolk, meira paibis and youths from the area joined MSF's human chain protest demanding concrete measures to promote and protect the Manipuri language which is recognized under the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution.

The protesters shouted various slogans, voicing their demands, including, "Protect Manipuri language and save Manipur's identity", "Reopen Manipuri language schools/insti-tutions shuttered by the Government", "Government authorities should introduce Manipuri language dictionary and encyclopedia as soon as possible" and "Ensure all textbooks upto college and university level are available in Manipuri language" .

MSF officially launched their protest on November 12, 2025 after the Government failed to act on the memorandum submitted to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on May 21, 2025.MSF has asserted that it will continue their protest until the Government meets their demands.
