Rhythms of Manipur marks 41st Foundation Day, premieres "Surgee Khonthang"

Imphal, July 11 2026: Rhythms of Manipur celebrated its 41st Foundation Day yesterday at the Golden Jubilee Stage of Manipuri Jagoi Marup, Imphal.

The highlight of the observance was die premiere of its new music composition, "Surgee Khonthang".

Chingtham Budha Member.

Board of Governors, EZCC Kolkata, Ministry of Culture, attended as chief guest.

President of Rhythms of Manipur Likmabam Manibabu Singh presided over the function, while social worker Aribam Amarjit Sharma attended as guest of honour.

The 35-minute-long composition featured 20 musicians, including six women artistes.

"Surgee Khonthang" has been composed by Haobam Nisheshwor Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, Chingtham Budha expressed concern over the situation in the State since May 2023 and the challenges faced by artistes.

He lauded Rhythms of Manipur for continuing its artistic work despite the difficulties, and added that music can play an important role in shaping society.

Founded in 1985, Rhythms of Manipur has performed across the country and in several Asian nations including Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Laos, Vietnam and Trinidad since 2013 .

Two of its compositions, "The Journey" and "Dancing Drummers", have won National Doordarshan Awards.
