RIMS department receives two national awards

Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry of Dental College, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, has been honoured with two prestigious national awards for its outstanding contribution to promoting oral health and community outreach.
A statement issued by RIMS media cell informed that the department secured the 1st consolation prize at the national level during the month-long "World Oral Health Day" observance organised from March 20 to April 20, 2024, by the Indian Society of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry.

A happy body", saw the department's active participation in spreading oral health awareness, including a 'cyclothon', dental camps at schools and localities, free screening, teacher training programmes, and competitions such as painting and slogan writing.
Head of Department Dr Wairokpam Bhoomika Devi, while representing the team, spoke on the importance of oral health for overall well-being during a radio programme on Akashvani Imphal.
The department also won the first prize for its remarkable efforts in the "Nanhi Muskan Project 2024," a healthcare initiative for underprivileged children that ran from July 15 to August 31, 2024.Collaborating with various organisations, the project offered free dental screenings and treatments, along with paediatric, eye, and ENT check-ups.
Beyond healthcare, the outreach included the distribution of free medicines and educational materials, as well as conduct of creative workshops like art, pottery, and storytelling.
Dr Bhoomika received the award during the annual national conference held in Bangalore on September 26.These achievements underscore the department's commitment to improving oral health and uplifting the lives of underprivileged children under the leadership of director Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib Singh, and RIMS Dental College principal Dr B Praveen Reddy, the statement added.
Meanwhile, RIMS organised a Swachhta health camp on Sunday at Leitanpokpi Temporary Shelter Home, Leitanpokpi Mairenpat, Imphal East as part of its Swachhta Action Plan 2024-25.Prof Y Govindaraj Singh, the nodal officer for SAP/Kaya Kalp 2024-25, explained that the health camp was part of RIMS' Special Campaign 4, aimed at providing healthcare to internally displaced communities.
He mentioned an increase in the number of health camps planned under the special campaign, with 5 to 6 more scheduled to address the needs of displaced persons.
Approximately 150 patients received medical attention from doctors specialising in obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatrics, and cardiothoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) .
Free medicines were also distributed to all attendees.
The event was attended by doctors, students, and staff of RIMS, underscoring the institute's commitment to community health and well-being.
The initiative is in line with the broader objectives of the Swachhta Action Plan, promoting health, hygiene, and cleanliness among underserved and displaced populations, according to RIMS media cell.
