Intensive skill development prog to be organised for IDPs

District administration of Thoubal is going to organise a four-day-long intensive skill development initiative for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in the district from June 9 till 12 at Rice Research Station.
Master trainers will impart training on 'Kauna Grass Craft Products' with the aimed of elevating quality of the products.
The programme will help in expanding the technical knowledge, skill up-gradation, building of new skills and innovative thinking.
'Kauna' (water reed) grass woven into a variety of utility products such as baskets, hampers, hats, and mats among others are known for their durability and are biodegradable and hence, eco-friendly.
The district administration has been initiating various skill development and income generating programmes in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Manipur State Livelihood Mission,, Handloom and Handicrafts Cooperation and NGOs among others.
It may be mentioned that candles, incense sticks and 'Kauna' products made by the IDPs were sold for Rs 1,39,360 during a one-day sales event held in November last year.
On June 28, 2023, the district administration in collaboration with KVK launched candles, made exclusively by the IDPs residing at the Kodompokpi Sports Complex Relief Centre.
The products made by the inmates are named Anouba Yening' and have b een made available for public purchase.
