Jiribam, February 06 2009: In the process of government setting up subsidiary police training and an IRB camp in Jiribam, the rubber plants have been cut down in mass scale.

Currently, government authority is taking up works for installation of the training centre and an IRB camp at Jarolpokpi which the state forest department has been developing as forest of rubber plant from 30 year back from now by investing a huge amount of funds.

With the full growth rubber plants, the production of the raw rubber had started recently.

According to the official source, forest department as earned an income of Rs 35 lakhs since the start of producing raw rubber in 1991-92 till 1998-99.Unfortunately, none of the authority took initiative to keep the land under the control of the department.

Hence state government had allotted the land to the state police department for construction of the police training centre and opening an IRB camp there.

A source from the state forest department said that the land required for the police department plan is 100 acre and in acquisitioning the land, the area under rubber plantation have been taken over by the police department.

Most of the cut down rubber plants were of full growth and ready for tapping, the source added.

The police department will also make an approach road of wide 50 feet to reach the plan site and a helipad will also develop there and targeting to complete all works during this current fiscal year, the source said.

On the other hand, another official source said that the state government has submitted a detail project report (DPR) to the North East Council for setting up a Rubber Factory in the state.

The DPR has been prepared after the NEC authority asked for the same to the state government.

As soon as NEC authority given sanctioned the project, the works for construction of the factory will be commenced, the source said.

Meanwhile, as Jiribam is vary much suited, many individuals has also started planting rubber in their land.

It can be hoped that if the rubber factory in Jiribam be completed, Manipur will able to the produce rubber.
