Imphal, August 04 2025:
Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur (IPFM) is all set to host the northeast chapter of International Day of the World's Indigenous People at City Convention Centre, here, on August 9 under the theme "Indigenous People's Right to Self-Determination: A Pathway for Food Security and Sovereignty".
Speaking at a press conference at Manipur Press Club on Monday, IPFM president Ashang Kasar informed that the observance is held annually in different north-eastern states under the aegis of North East Indigenous People's Forum (NEIPF) .
This year, IFPM, which is the Manipur chapter of NEIPF, will host the event in Imphal.
The titular king of Tripura will attend as chief guest, and delegates from seven states of the northeast region, including several MLAs, would be participating, he said.
Ashang urged all indigenous people of the state to join the programme.
He said that IPFM serves as a common platform for all indigenous people of Manipur and is not confined to a particular community.
The forum's objective is to foster unity, integrity and peaceful coexistence among indigenous communities of the Northeast while promoting indigenous culture and traditions on a global stage.
He added that if any organisation has misunderstandings with IPFM, the forum is open for dialogue to resolve the differences.
He called for public support for both the forum and the upcoming event.
