Jiribam, July 02 2024:
Various Hindu and Muslim organisations based in Jiribam district organised a sit-in protest at Lalpani Bazar here on Tuesday to demand authorities concerned find solution to the violence in the border district in particular, and the state in general.
Interacting with the media at the protest venue, All Jiribam Muslim Socio-Economics and Cultural Development Organisation general secretary Abdul Rof Laskar expressed remorse that inspite of having prominent and influential personalities the two communities are involved in the violent conflict.
He decried the circumstances that led to the outbreak of violence in the district after maintaining peace for over a year by forming a peace committee and also denounced the acts of arson targeting properties that led to displacement of several people.
The situation has forced rubber farms in the district to cease activities as labourers could not tend to the farms thereby affecting the income source for many.
MGNREGS projects have not been sanctioned and fate of students are uncertain, the secretary said.
He then demanded the government authority to facilitate dialogue between the two communities in conflict and restore peace and normalcy in the district at the earliest.
Abdul Laskar also demanded the authority to deploy security forces in adequate numbers and facilitate resettlement of the displaced people, and resumption of normal classes in educational institutions.
Besides, the Development Organisation, Hindu Jagaran Manch Jiribam, All Jiribam Muslim Welfare Society, and Manasudra Parishad, Latingkhal jointly organised the protest.
