Affluent folks randomly dumping waste: Eco-Network

Eco-Network, Manipur president Sinthangamba Laishram has called embarrassing that some people owning hi-end vehicles bring and dump garbage on the roadsides.
Speaking to media persons, Sinthangamba informed that Eco-Network has been working for protection of the environment through initiation of 'Free Garbage, Zero Waste' mission, Heirok-Wangjing River Rejuvenation Campaign and collection of plastic bottles by self-help groups and selling them to Ashok Traders, Tentha Marongban to fund the initiatives.
He also called upon the people to segregate waste at source, so that discarded recyclable materials can be reused and provide income generation opportunity.

While cautioning that burning of plastic waste is harmful to health, Sinthan-gamba suggested that such items be reutilised for other purposes.
He also stressed the im portance of ceasing random disposal of garbage in Imphal area and effective implementation of waste management policy, while adding that this can be achieved only when the public extend support.
Sinthangamba continued that improper waste disposal can be reduced if people collect and hand over the same to NGOs involved in collection of garbage.
He, however, expressed remorse that some people are hesitating to subscribe to NGOs involved in collection of garbage by levying nominal fee for rendering the service and instead disposing garbage by loading them on their costly vehicles and clandestinely dumping at undesignated locations.
