NFSA card holders threaten intense stir

Demanding immediate delivery of rice under National Food Security Act (NFSA), which has been delayed for 7 months, NFSA-card holders of Kshetrigao assembly constituency threatened to launch intense agitations if the demand is not honoured.
Addressing media persons on behalf of NFSA card holders (polling 4/37, Shop No 78) of Kshetrigao assembly constituency at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday, one Maibam Gita-mala Devi said that even though the rice has been distributed for some wards at Panthoibi Lampak, Kongba by officials of CAF&PD department, NFSA card holders in other wards have been deprived of rice for November and December 2023, as well as January and February 2024.She further said that besides the said four months, the constituency has not received its rice quota for three months (April, May, and June 2024) with local MLA as well as the DSO apprised on the matter.
During a meeting with the CAF&PD minister, assurance was given that the rice would be distributed by June 15.However, a directive issued by CAF&PD Imphal East on June 14 that term of NFSA agents had expired and new agents would be appointed was published in-the media on June 19, she elaborated, and expressed strong resentment that the pending NFSA rice will be distributed after appointment of new agents.
Gitamala also said that the delayed NFSA rice, now spanning 6-7 months, must be delivered without further delay while reiterating that intense protests will be launched against those responsible for the rice distribution in case the demand is not upheld.
