As part of Operation Sadbhavana, the India Army established a Tailoring and Embroidery Centre at Khoirentak Khuman under the aegis of the Red Shield Division of Spear Corps.
As per a statement, the initiative aims to empower local women through structured skill development, encouraging economic self-reliance and revitalising Manipur's rich tradition of handloom and embroidery craftsmanship.
The Centre is equipped with 23 machines, comprising 5 electrically operated embroidery machines and 18 foot-operated sewing machines, enabling both training and production capabilities.
Executed at a total cost of Rs 5 lakhs, the initiative is designed with the potential to gradually extend its benefits to neighbouring villages and a wider section of the community.
Beyond imparting vocational skills, the Centre will serve as a platform for sustained mentorship, community engagement and capacity building.
