Imphal, September 28 2024:
The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW), in collaboration with Ibotombi Institute of Education (IIE), successfully conducted a "One-Day Capacity Building/Training Programme for Women Empowerment" at Kha Naorem Leikai, Canchipur in Imphal West district on Saturday.
During the event, Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang spoke about the pivotal role of MSCW as a platform for addressing issues faced by women, such as domestic violence, discrimination, and other forms of harassment.
She emphasised that the Commission provides women with a safe space to file complaints and seek justice for issues ranging from domestic abuse to cybercrime.
She asserted that MSCW carefully reviews the nature of each complaint before taking appropriate action.
When dealing with family issues, they typically begin with counselling both parties, and if the issue remains unresolved, necessary legal actions are taken, she explained.
She also shed light on the rising number of cybercrime-related complaints received by the Commission.
However, as the Commission does not have the jurisdiction to act directly in such cases, they collaborate with the cybercrime department to ensure the matter is appropriately addressed.
She urged the attendees to actively spread awareness of women empowerment and to serve as advocates for empowering women in their communities.
Ibotombi Institute of Education (IIE) principal Dr RK Bijen emphasised the importance of women empowerment, expressing hope for a future where men and women are treated equally.
He expressed concern that, despite years of independence in India, traditional gender roles continue to limit women s participation in society.
He highlighted the need to address political, social, and economic discrimination, noting that while progress has been made, inequality still remains a grave challenge.
Dr Bijen called for proactive measures to eliminate these disparities and empower women to contribute fully to the nation s development.
MSCW member Lourembam Dayabati gave the keynote address, briefing MSCW's role in women empowerment and the need to uplift women and their sanctity.
The programme also attended by MSCW member secretary T Chuongsin Koireng, several dignitaries, students of the institute, and others.
