Imphal, June 27 2024:
Accusing Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPD-CL) of unjustly deducting 20 percent from the consumers' electric recharge coupon citing 'outstanding dues', Consumers' Club, Manipur has demanded that the deducted amount be refunded to the consumers within a weekfailing which legal actions will be initiated against MSPDCL.
In a statement, Consumers' Club opined that even as many are assisting those affected by the protracted humanitarian crisis by procuring essential commodities from outside, MSPDCL has been exacerbating the situation by cheating its consumers.
Charging MSPDCL of illegally deducting 20 percent from consumers' electric recharges citing 'outstanding dues', resulting in consumers receiving less than their actual prepaid recharge amount, the statement said that such 'irregularities' have been reported in Imphal Electrical Division 2 - Lamphel and Division 3 - Kakwa area.
The consumers in other divisions might also have experienced similar issues, it noted, and asked MSPDCL to immediately clarify its position as such actions violate consumers' rights under the Consumer Protection Act 2019.Actions should be taken against all those involved in such misconduct, failing which Consumers' Club may be compelled to initiate legal proceedings, the statement cautioned.
