DESAM vows to prioritise conservation

Imphal, July 26 2025: Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) president Mayengbam Somorjit Meitei has declared that the student body's commitment to prioritising conservation of the environment.

"We will now pay special attention to protection and conservation of the environment," he stated, while speaking at the prize distribution function for the Second State Level Environment Quiz Competition 2025, held on June 22, at the conference hall of the Kindergarten Montessori School in Takyel on Saturday.

Somorjit noted that usage of one-time use plastics is heavily affecting the environment.

"There is a need to aware the students to protect the environment.

As such, DESAM will pay special attention to environmental conservation," he stated, while stressing the need to work together in this regard.

The function was attended by School principal Dr Longjam Dhaneshwor and senior journalist and environmentalist Salam Rajesh as presidium members.

Around 3000 students from five districts participated in the competition, which was held in two categories.

The first place winner received Rs 10000, second place Rs 7000 and third prize Rs 5000 respectively as cash prize, along with a certificate, and memento each.

The consolation prize winners were awarded Rs 1000 and a certificate each.
