Noney bodies decry random road tax collection

Condemning unauthorised collection of road taxes by a group from drivers of Noney in between Keithelmanbi and Imphal, Goods Transport Association and Noney Area Business Association, have urged the government to take immediate actions to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in such acts.
In a joint release, the Noney organisations said a particular group demanding payments under the pretext of road tax collection is not only illegal but also impacting business community and public.
These activities threaten the trust and integrity of legitimate tax collection processes managed by authorised governmental agencies, the bodies said in a joint release while cautioning of blocking National Highway-37 if the illegal activities are not halted.
The joint release further urged for investigation to prevent such unlawful activities in the future and ensure transparency and fairness of tax collection.
It also called upon all businesses and residents in Noney area to remain vigilant and report any instances of unauthorised tax collection to authorities concerned.
"Protecting our community from such exploitation is a collective responsibility, and we must ensure that road tax collection is conducted through proper legal stations," the joint release added.
