FESOK demands action against SAPO, SAYO
Source: Chronicle News Service

Imphal, March 26 2022: Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) and Manipur State Council, All India Youth Federation (MSC, AIYF) have urged the governments of Nagaland and Manipur to take concrete action against Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) and other Angami CSOs including Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) for enforcing illegal bandh along Imphal Dimapur National Highway.

In a release, FESOK joint secretary Kangujam Amarjit asserted that the state government must not yield to the unreasonable demands of SAPO and other Angami CSOs that have imposed an indefinite bandh in the Imphal-Dimapur section of NH 2 demanding removal of state security out-posts and infrastructures from areas in Mao, Senapati district that are adjacent to Nagaland border.

There have been many instances where certain communities based in Nagaland made baseless statements and claims on the boundary of Manipur.

Infrastructures such as TB Hospital and security out-posts have been established in parts of Dzuko Valley belonging to Manipur by claiming that the areas come under Nagaland.

Frequent bandhs have been called on NH 2 by Angami CSOs to assert their false claims that the land belongs to them, the release pointed out.

FESOK demanded that the Union home minister should immediately step in and advice Government of Nagaland to take action against bandh supporters and if not possible should deploy central forces to free the national highway.

Why has the Union government remained silent on the matter even though the bandh has been going on for almost a week, posed the organisation, while contended that Government of India has maintained a stoic silence with regard to boundary disputes of North Eastern states despite several incidents of violence.

It seems like it is wilfully letting the disputes to simmer under a plan, it alleged.

Stating that the vast areas of land of the state have been surrendered to Myanmar in the name of border fencing along Indo-Myanmar boundary, FESOK noted that the Union government has done nothing in cases where Myanmar destroyed border pillars and encroached into Manipur/India.

The present government should not compromise with the bandh supporters just to show that under their rule no bandh or blockade happens.

The state government must communicate with Union home minister on the issue and these communications should be made public, it further emphasised.

Meanwhile, AIYF MSC secretary Kh Himalay termed as unfortunate that SAPO and other related organisations have called a bandh and restricted movement of Manipur bound vehicles.

It condemned the silence of Government of Nagaland over the issue and demanded the state government to put pressure on Nagaland government for announcing SAPO and SAYO as banned groups for repeatedly interfering with authority of the Government of Manipur, AIYF asserted.
