"Don't collect illegal tax from vegetable farmers"

Imphal, September 24 2026: Retired IAS officer Harekrishna Mangshatabam has urged to stop collecting illegal tax from vegetable farmers, brokers and traders in Manipur and causing obstructions to them.

He was speaking as chief guest at the 1st Foundation Day Celebration 2026 of the North East Vegetable Farmers, Workers and Traders Welfare Union Manipur held today at Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul.

He said Manipur is not self-sufficient in meat, fish, fruits and vegetables and has to import them.

He appealed to the Government to take strict action against those collecting illegal tax on highways.

He also urged to allow free movement of vegetable transport vehicles during bandhs and blockades.

Union president N Chitrangada also spoke at the function.
