COCOMI Women's Wing has called on BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sarda, asked her party to form a people's government at the earliest and take necessary measures to restore peace in the state.
Addressing the media at COCOMI office in Lamphelpat, on Monday, COCOMI Women's Wing president RK Tharaksana said that the group met Sarda on Sunday to pressurise her into forming a government at the earliest.
The team voiced concerns over the recent security crackdown on village volunteers following the imposition of President's Rule, stating that the absence of a popular government has worsened the situation.
Tharaksana highlighted the failure of the security apparatus to safeguard public lives and property, which led many youths to take up arms in defence of their community and state, The Women's Wing demanded that no village volunteers should be arrested or criminalised for stepping up in the face of violence and insecurity.
In response to their concerns, Sarda assured to meet with the Governor to discuss the matter and explore ways to address the crisis, Tharaksana said.
Chipping in, co-convenor W Luwangleima raised allegations against the Assam Rifles.
Citing statements from the Senapati District Students' Association, she claimed there is video evidence of Assam Rifles personnel escorting Kuki militants.
However, she noted that the paramilitary force has denied these allegations.
Luwangleima further accused the security forces of presenting discarded weapons as recovered or surrendered items from the hill areas, while simultaneously intensifying crackdowns on village volunteers in the valley.
She also alleged collusion between the Assam Rifles and Kuki militants in an attempt to suppress the Meetei community.
The COCOMI Women's Wing demanded the Central government to stop the "dirty game" being played in the state and ensure impartial law enforcement to bring genuine peace and stability to Manipur.
