CRA condemns killing of women, kids

Imphal, November 23 2024:
Centre for Research and Advocacy, Manipur (CRA) condemned the inhumane and merciless killing of six Meitei women and children by armed Kuki militants after abduction from a relief camp at Borobekra, Jiribam district on November 11, 2024 .
In a release, CRA stated that kidnaping and inhumane killing of minor children and brutal rape and murder of women by Kuki militants constitute a crime against humanity and violate humanitarian and human rights laws on protection of Women and children.
The Government of India should urgently institute an impartial investigation into the killing and punish all those involved in perpetuating the violence and crime against humanity against indigenous women and children in Manipur, it demanded, while decrying the failure of both state and central governments to protect the lives and security of children and women in Manipur, despite heavy security deployment and militarisation in Manipur since 3 May 2023 .
The release called upon both governments to take urgent steps to protect indigenous women and children from all forms of violence, displacement and discrimination in accordance with the UN Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination and Violence against Women and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Blaming the Government of India for failing to contain the violence and protect the lives of the indigenous women and children in Manipur, the CRA demanded that the government takes urgent steps to end the on going violence and restore peace and normalcy in the state.
