Khongjom Day observed across state, Tripura

Various organisations observed Khongjom Day on Wednesday by paying-floral tributes to the portrait of Paona Brajabashi and other unknown martyrs along with conduct of various programme in honour of the valiant Manipuri forefathers.
Manipur State Shumang Leela Council observed Khongjom Day at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound with Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board member secretary Maisnam Shivadutta Luwang, Arambai Tenggol leader Korounganba Khuman and Art and Culture deputy director G Dharmadas Sharma as the presidium members.
The observance was marked by paying floral trib uteS to Paona Brajabashi and other martyrs of the of the Anglo-Manipur War, 1891 by the presidium members, AT volunteers, Shumang Leela artistes and public along with staging of 'Khongjom Landa Paona' a play written by P Gunachandra Sharma.
Certificates were also presented to the artistes in the play.
Similarly, Bharatiya Janata Party Manipur Pradesh observed Khongjom Day at BJP Thambal Sanglen, Nityaipat Chuthek, attended by BJP Manipur Pradesh president in-charge Nongthombam Nimbus Singh, party MLAs, Morcha leaders and workers.
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) observed Khongjom Day at the martyrs' memorial atop Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband as Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Thoubal district, in collaboration with Students for Seva (SFS), Manipur, organised a 'Jal Seva' and juice distribution programme at Khongjom War Memorial Complex in Thoubal district.
In a release, ABVP informed that activities were in honour of the indomitable spirit and supreme sacrifice made by Manipuri forefathers during the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891 .
On the other hand, Writers' Platform Manipur (WRITPLAT) in collaboration with Jaideep Memorial Foundation observed Khongjom Day, World Book and Copyright Day along with organising a talk show at Manipur Press Club.
The function began with floral tributes to the photos of Khongjom war martyrs followed by release of books titled 'Lareinungdagi Langon Langdai' by Dr KB Ingarem-ba and biography of Amrik Singh Pahwa Manipur of my Dream' translated by Nongmaithem Kirankumar and short story recitation session.
The talk show had retired District and Sessions Judge Aribam Noutuneshwari and Manipur University assistant professor Dr N Sanatomba Singh as the resource persons.
Sahitya Seva Samiti Kakching Manipur observed Khongjom Day with a discussion programme on 'Lairik Meeoiba Kanano Punshi Karino' written by Yengkhom Bihari at Library and Information Centre auditorium, Kakching Phoushupat Leikai.
Apunba Manipur Kan ba Ima Lup also observed Khongjom Day at its Keishampat office participated by its members, Khwairamband Ima Keithel women vendors and representatives of various organisations.
AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi stated that on Tuesday the organisation paid respect to the Manipuri soldiers martyred during the battle with the British Silchar Column at Leimatak (Lamangdong), Bishnupur on the same day the Anglo-Manipuri War, 1891 was fought at Khongjom.
Khongjom Day was also observed in Tripura by Manipuri Literary and Cultural Forum (MLCF), Tripura.
