Sit-ins flay Salungpham incident, Kamalbabu case

Phaknung Apunba Meira Paibi and Mana Ingkhol Meira Paibi jointly staged a sit-in protest at Phaknung Thong Achouba Makhong on Sunday.
During the sit-in, the protestors shouted slogans condemning the killing of a village volunteer at Salungpham village in Thoubal district and demanding strict punishment of the police commandos involved, unconditional release of all arrested village volunteers and to stop all attempts to arrest village volunteers in the future, and commandos to stop flexing muscle on Meetei youths but tackle narco-terrorists, immediate withdrawal of AFSPA from the state, locating whereabouts of Laishram Kamalbabu, who went missing from the Leimakhong army camp, and for the state government to send the recommendation to centre for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST List, a press release by Phaknung Social Youth Clubs (PSYC) secretary Lairenlapam Priyojit Singh informed.
Similarly, Huikap Ningthou Khul Marup, All Huikap Meira Paibi, YWA, YFC and YDA jointly organised sit-in protest at Huikap Mayai Leikai community hall denouncing arrests of village volunteers.
The protestors held placards inscribed 'We condemn Salungpham killing', 'We condemn killing of village volunteer', Stop arresting village volunteer', 'Police command involved in killing of village volunteer should be punished', and 'Withdraw AFSPA from Manipur' among others.
Similarly, Uripok Apunba Lup, Uripok Apunba Nupi Lup and Lamphel Sanakeithel Development Association jointly organised sit-in protest against arrest of village volunteers and demand for unconditional release of village volunteers.
In another release, Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) secretary publicity L Rajesh informed that sit-ins were held at different locations to denounce killing and arrest of village volunteer and demanding release of arrested village volunteers.
The sit-ins were held at Wangoi Keithel, Tera Keithel, Thongju Waikhom Khongnangkhong community hall, Top Khongnangkhong and Charangpat Mamang Leikai Laibung.
Similar protests were also staged by Malem Ima Kanba Lup, Kangleipak under the supervision of COCOMI at Langol Game Village Zone-4 community hall and at Kham-nam Bazar by local Meira Paibi groups.
