Imphal, November 22 2024:
Manipur police commandos deployed in Moreh border town are facing dire condition owing to alleged negligence on part of the authorities.
According to a report, the commando personnel deployed at the Indo-Myanmar border town are selected from amongst the personnel deployed in valley districts and stationed in Moreh on rotational basis for three months.
However, there has been no replacement for the personnel deployed in June this year, who came prepared only with summer clothes.
With the deployment period stretching longer and the winter season approaching, the personnel are finding themselves in a tight spot.
In addition, the personnel pool in money to bear cost of fuel for engaging a BSF water tanker to provide potable water to the camp.
The personnel even have a hard time trying to withdraw money from ATMs and they are compelled to cook food with firewood after LPG refills exhausted.
They also cannot purchase or go out and collect firewood, the report informed.
The situation is even more difficult when one of them falls ill as it is difficult to go out and seek treatment or purchase medicines.
As such, the personnel appealed to the authorities concerned to look into the matter at the earliest and take the necessary actions to alleviate their suffering.
