Landslide-hit Liangmai villages seek Govt help

Imphal, June 22 2022:
The Liangmai Naga Council, Eastern Zone (LNC-EZ), the Eastern Liangmai Chief Chairman Association (ELCCA) and the Ahangruak Chief Chairman Association (ACCA) made a fervent appeal to Kangpokpi district administration, local MLAs and the government of Manipur to extend help and support at, this critical situation as the road connecting Kangpokpi and Tamenglong districts via Chawangkining-Tapon to T-Waichong and Makui Golai to Langka, which is now the lifeline of the people living along the IT Road area, have been cut off totally due to incessant rain which triggered flood, mudslides and landslides at several parts including IT Road and its subsidiaries roads.
It may be mentioned here that the villagers of Tapon, Makui, Langka, T Waichong and other neighbouring villagers have been trying their level best to restore the road damaged by the rain with the limited resources available with them, the Liangmai bodies also said.
Besides, the Liangmai organisations stated that the inclement weather has wreaked havoc to normal life of the villagers which has led to a nightmare for commuting as the aforesaid affected villages are now completely cut off from the district headquarters and the state capital.
According to the denizens, there is shortage of essential commodities such as food supplies, life supporting medicines, safe drinking water and power supply, etc., since the last few days.
As such, the Liangmai bodies said that the villagers, who need medical attention and medical emergencies, are being carried in bamboo stretchers and are trekking for days to the nearest healthcare centres.
The Liangmai bodies then said that it has been the same story during every rainy season and appealed to the authorities concerned to do the needful.
Meanwhile, the Liangmai bodies also urged authorities concerned to visit the affected areas along IT Road for first hand assessment of the magnitude of damages caused to agricultural lands and irrigation canals in Tapon, Makui, Langka and its adjoining areas of IT Road.
"Therefore, it is our earnest prayer to the district administrations, authorities and the state government to take up necessary measures and address our grievances so that normal life of the people living in the area is restored at the earliest", the Liangmai organisations urged.
