NRFM boycotts R-Day, imposes general strike

Imphal, January 22 2025: Boycotting India's Republic Day celebration in Manipur on January 26, the armed National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM) imposed general strike on the day from 1 am till 4 pm.

The general strike, however, will be exempted for religious ceremonies, medical, electricity, fire service and media, the NRFM announced in a statement issued by information and publicity secretary Sanajaoba Meitei.

According to the NRFM, people of India celebrate the enactment of its own Constitution every year on January 26 with much pomp and gaiety but it is the same Constitution that crushed the Manipuri society.

Accordingly, there is no reason for the people of Manipur to join India's Republic Day celebration though state government has taken up preparations.

It also said that Indian Constitution is yet to reprieve any person in Manipur from suffering and accordingly the organisation imposed restriction on celebration of India's Republic Day in the land.
