'Trust of parents on Govt schools increasing'

Trust of parents on government schools is increasing with the coming of STAR Education programme and the student enrolment in government schools has increased, claimed STAR Education's policy & partnership director Sonny Chungkham.
Sonny Chungkham told media persons on the sidelines of a ZEOs' conclave held at Classic Grade Hotel, Chingmeirong, here, on Wednesday that the 'System Transformation and Rejuvenation of Education- or STAR Education programme is being taken up under th Chief Minister's School Fagathansi mission and the programme is being implemented at 511 government schools in all 16 districts of the state.
Service under STAR Education programme is being provided to students displaced by the ongoing violence and currently sheltered at relief camps as well, he said.
While claiming that parents have increased their trust on government schools with the implementation of STAR Education programme, Sonny Chungkham said that there were 16,300 students in 252 schools in the beginning of the programme but the number of students has increased to 28,000 now.
The increasing number of enrolments in government schools after the implementation of STAR Education programme shows that there is growing trust of parents on government schools, he added.
According to Sonny Chungkham, the main objective of STAR Education programme is utilisation of modern technologies so that the state could join the global change in education sector in the 21st century.
Accordingly, teachers of the state are being provided tablets and mobile phones so that they could enhance knowledge of students with effective teaching techniques.
Regarding the ZEOs- conclave, Sonny Chungkham said the conclave has been organised to update STAR Education programme with ZEOs of all the 16 districts in the state.
ZEO Imphal East Mayanglambam Premchandra also told media persons that teachers are using modern technologies in teaching students under STAR Education programme.
The programme currently covers students of class VIII and efforts are being made to cover class IX students as well very soon.
ZEO Chandel Y Hemchandra also told media persons that STAR Education programme expects to bring a big change in education sector lying under public sector in Manipur and the programme currently covers 511 government schools.
He also said that more than 2000 teachers including headmasters/headmistresses have been imparted training under the programme and they are being provided tablets.
