Thoubal, May 21 2022:
A team of Demo cratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) led by its secretary (education & academic affairs) Thounaojam Somol Luwang carried out inspection of Tentha High School, Wangjing as part of its mass reformation campaign phase-III .
In a release, DESAM, Thoubal District Council vice president B Rakesh Sharma stated that Tentha High School, which has students studying from class III to X, is presently being run by only 14 teachers with no subject teachers of English, Home Science and Computer Science.
The classrooms were also found in very bad shape, making a joke of the government's effort to improve condition of government schools.
In such a situation, it is questionable how parents would be interested in sending their children to government school, the vice president opined and contended that higher government officials only care for regular salaries while undermining interest and rights of the students.
According to the release, the DESAM team also found that the new academic block of the school has been under construction since March 7, 2018 and on questioning the contractor clarified that-the work has been delayed due to legal dispute.
In this regard, DESAM urged authority concerned to address the matter and finish the construction of the classrooms at the earliest.
Further stating that the newly constructed practical and craft room of the school lacked quality control, the students' body asserted that it will not allow conduct of class under poorly constructed school buildings.
