Chandel, August 19 2026:
Assam Rifles is conducting a three-month pre-recruitment training programme for local youth aspiring to join the Indian Armed Forces through the Territorial Army recruitment process.
The training, which commenced on July 15 at Shalluk village in Chandel district is aimed at preparing and motivating candidates through systematic physical training, academic guidance and counselling.
According to IGAR (South), the programme began with a detailed medical examination conducted by the Assam Rifles Regimental Medical Officer to assess the fitness and suitability of the aspirants.
This was followed by rigorous physical screening tests to evaluate stamina and endurance, along with a written examination to assess their academic preparedness.
Following the initial assessment, 40 motivated youths, including 25 males and 15 females, were shortlisted for intensive training under the guidance of Assam Rifles personnel.
Aspirants from Shalluk and adjoining villages, including Tampi, Chakpikarong and Sajik Tampak, are participating in the programme to improve their physical fitness, discipline and selfconfidence and enhance their prospects of securing a career in the Armed Forces.
The initiative has been appreciated by local residents, parents and village authorities, who viewed the programme as a constructive effort towards empowering local youth and providing them with opportunities to pursue meaningful careers in the military.
