Imphal, April 19 2025: Sangai First Foundation organised a one-day Students' Sensitisation Programme on the occasion of Sangai Day, on Saturday, at Chingmei High School, Chingmei Awang, located near the Keibul Lamjao Floating National Park.

The event attended by Dr Kh Samungou, managing trustee of the Foundation; L Biramangol Singh, director of Manipur Zoological Garden; K Jugeshor, trustee; and N Binoy, national teacher awardee and headmaster of the host school.

During his address, Biramangol shared vital insights into the Sangai deer's primary and secondary habitats, as well as its presence in zoological parks across India.

He also donated a set of informative booklets to enrich the school's library resources.

Jugeshor underscored the vital role of youth engagement in promoting Sangai conservation and sustainable environmental practices.

Dr Samungou highlighted the socio-cultural importance of the Sangai in Manipuri identity and donated 12 of his publications on Manipur's wildlife and ecological heritage.

The programme also witnessed a collective pledge by all attendees to support the conservation of the Sangai.

A spot quiz competition saw enthusiastic participation from 71 students, with seven winners set to be awarded during the main Sangai Day celebrations on December 10, 2025 .

The event was assisted by 11 teachers.

Details of the next host school for the upcoming Sangai Day in May 2025 will be announced shortly.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by headmaster N Binoy.
