Imphal, May 18 2024:
Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) organised Kangleipal Mukna Changyengnaba 2024 on the theme 'Let's preserve indigenous games at Manipur University's Dr Kamal Indoor Stadium on Saturday.
The inaugural programme of the Mukna competition was attended by MU Department of Physical Education & Sports Science head Prof Laishram Thambal, SUK advisor Laikhuram Jayenta and SUK H/Q president Ningthoujam Dhana kumar Meitei as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, SUK health & sports secretary Moirangthem Basko Chanu said that the 'Mukna competition' has been organised for the students with an objective to make them aware of the origin of the game and how it is played.
The promotion of the indigenous game which is related with our culture, in view of the changing times, will make the younger generation remember our history, she observed, while adding that despite several views about origin of the Mukna, it is generally approved that the origin of Mukna can be traced back to Moirang Kan-gleirol which is mentioned in the Meitei Puya 'Leithak Leikharol' .
Highlighting the need for preservation of indigenous games in tune with the changing times, Basko Chanu stated that people have vital role to play in the preservation and promotion of indigenous games.
