Imphal, June 16 2024:
Denouncing alleged attempt to recruit untrained individuals as teachers, volunteers of Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Imphal East and Imphal West districts on Sunday torched effigies of the education minister, commissioner and director of Education (Schools) on Sunday.
The DESAM volunteers burnt effigies of the three at the gate of Oriental College, Imphal West and at Pangei Bazar in Imphal East.
The volunteers also shouted slogans demanding resignation of the education minister, commissioner and the Education (S) director, and for unconditional release of the arrested DESAM volunteers.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, DESAM Imphal West District Council president N Nobinchandra asked the government to withdraw its plan to recruit untrained teachers, stating that such a policy is akin to appointing people to the posts of doctors and engineers without any exposure to the basics after completion of Class XII .
He then wryly commended the government policy of awarding wrongdoers while punishing those pursuing truth and legitimacy.
Thus, he demanded the Education minister, commissioner and the Education (S) director to resign for failing to do their duty, while further demanding the release of the arrested DESAM volunteers without any condition while cautioning of launching intense agitations in case of failure to do so .
