Road Safety month observance begins in Ukhrul, CCpur, Bishnupur

UKHRUL: Ukhrul district joined the nation in observing the 36th National Road Safety Month on Tuesday, with Ukhrul DC Zuringla Kengoo officially flagging off the initiative, themed 'Parvaak' (Care) here at Ukhrul Mini secretariat.
The month-long programme, which began on January 1, aims to promote awareness about road safety and reduce accidents through community participation.
During the flag-off ceremony, DC Zuringla highlighted the importance of road safety, stating, "Road safety is not just a necessity; it is a responsibility", adding that the National Road Safety Month seeks to unite stakeholders, citizens, and especially the youth, in creating a culture of safer roads for everyone.

She also highlighted the cruel impacts of road accidents, including physical injuries, emotional trauma, and financial burdens, while advocating for collective efforts to address these challenges.
During the campaign, banners bearing messages such as "Don't Drink and Drive", "Always Wear a Seatbelt", and "Your Safety is Our Priority", were held by the participants.
A special highlight of the programme was the pasting of reflective tapes in yellow, grey, and red on passenger service vehicles - a symbolic gesture, led by the DC and Ukhrul additional SP Ringthing Hongchui, reinforced the importance of visibility and adherence to road safety protocols.
Ukhrul DTO Ninganung Hs administered the Road Safety Pledge 2025, urging the participants to commit to safe driving practices, follow traffic rules, and assist accident victims.
The flag-off programme also witnessed the active participation of key district officials, including CMO Dr Kapangring, ZEO Badan and other district level officers among others.
CCPUR: In observance of the Road Safety Awareness Month 2025, deputy commissioner Dharun Kumar flagged off "Campaign-Two-Wheeler Rally" on Wednesday from the Mini Secretariat in Tuibong, here.
The event was organised by the district administration.
Deputy commissioner Dharun addressed the prevalent issue of frequent road accidents in the district, urging civil society, public, and residents to actively support law enforcement in promoting adherence to traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
He emphasised the need for community-wide participation at various administrative levels - village, block, sub-divisional, and district - to foster a culture of safety and prevent accidents.
Additionally, the deputy commissioner highlighted a Ministry of Road and Transport's initiative designed to address hit-and-run accidents.
According to the scheme, families of victims can file claims using Form X which should be submitted to the Claim Enquiry Officer (SDM/SDC).
The officer will investigate and submit an enquiry report in Form II within one month, along with required documentation, for claim settlement.
Families of deceased victims will receive an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh, while those with grievous injuries will receive Rs 1.5 lakh.
Additionally, a Cashless Treatment Scheme, in collaboration with various hospitals, will provide cashless treatment to accident victims, he elaborated.
The two-wheeler rally, led by the deputy commissioner and the SP, along with ADCs and SDOs concluded at the SDO Office, Churachandpur.
The event drew participation from officials of the district administration, DLOs, police and IRB personnel, as well as members from Eimi Riders and Royal Riders.
BPR: Deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram on Wednesday flagged off the 36th National Road Safety Month 2025 under the theme "Parvaah (Care)" at the Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur.
The event was organised by the District Transport Office, in collaboration with office of the SP Bishnupur, Zonal Education Office, and Chief Medical Office, under the supervision of the district administration.
The observance will feature a variety of activities aimed at-promoting road safety, including a road safety enforcement drive, school road safety awareness campaigns, quiz and drawing competition, public awareness programmes, poster campaign, and awareness about the hit-and-run motor compensation scheme.
During the event, the deputy commissioner administered the Road Safety Pledge 2025, calling on all participants to commit to safe driving practices.
The pledge emphasised the importance of following traffic rules: wearing helmets, using seat belts, avoiding the use of mobile phones while driving, refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, respecting the rights of pedestrians, and actively promoting road safety within the community.
A key highlight of the programme was the application of the "Golden Rules for Road Safety" to vehicles operating on the roads, reinforcing safe practices for all road users.
District Transport Officer Khumujam Jimmy Singh noted that road safety month is being observed across the district, aiming to reduce accidents and increase awareness.
He urged the public to strictly follow traffic rules and avoid using high beam lights at night to prevent accidents.
He also stressed the importance of wearing helmets for safety and not evading penalties.
Additional district magistrate T Opendra, district-level officials, bike riders, and auto drivers also attended the flag-off event.
