The forth observation against violence to women and children which Women Action for Development (WAD) in association with other like minded civil organizations at different parts of the state concluded today with function held at Kangla Hall.
The concluding function was attended by Padamashri Aribam Shyam Sharma as chief guest while president, Jamiliyatul Ullama, Manipur Mv Sahid Ahmed as president of the function.
Lecturer DM College of Arts Ch Shilaramani, Editor Ereibak Arun Irengbam and consultant, United NGO Misison, O J Meetei also attended the function as guest of honours.
Aribam Shayam while delivering his speech as chief guest said that in the olden times, women and men are taking equal shares in the society-men act as soldiers while women look after household affairs.
But now there have been a gulf of different which bring about by the time.
To become a developed society, to put up women at higher status is a must, he observed.
Speaking at the function, WAD secretary said due to the persisting violence and down looking attitudes, women of the state despite having enough inborn quality are still could not culture their qualities.
Now time has come to find steps to bring at end to the violence meted out to the women like raping, molesting and trafficking of them and put up the women in the society, she said.
Arun Irengbam said that in a democratic country or state, the rights of women do not confined only to casting vote but they have also the rights to participate in the decision making.
Shilaramoni observed that now the world knew that various defects came up due to giving no room to the women while making decisions.
When women are put up at high level, the world will be marched ahead better.
Results of the essay and painting competition held as a part of the forth night observation was out at concluding function.
During the function gender journalist awards were also distributed.
Premchand, reporter, Poknapham got the award while a consolation prize was also awarded to Nimola, reporter of Naharolgi Thoudang.
The award having a cash amount of Rs.10,000 to Premchand was handed over by last year's award winner Ng Liklaileima of Sangai Express.
