Thoubal, June 13 2025:
Condoling the untimely demise of two young flight attendants from Manipur in the tragic Air India plane crash yesterday, former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi has expressed hope that the State's collective grief will bring communities together.
Nganthoi Sharma Kongrailakpam from Thoubal Awang Leikai and Lamnunthem Singson from Kangpokpi lost their lives in the aviation disaster which left only 1 alive out of 242 people onboard the plane at Meghaninagar in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

Accompanied by his wife and former MLA of Khangabok AC Okram Landhoni, Okram Ibobi met the bereaved family members including the deceased's father K Nandeshkumar, mother K Mala while extending solidarity during this difficult time.
After the visit, the former Chief Minister said there is no other way to bear the loss of the two souls than to accept that they died in service of the Nation.
"Everyone has to die, but it is especially painful that the two young lives were cut short in their prime", he added.
Though the two crew members belonged to different communities, Okram Ibobi expressed belief that they must have shared a close bond as Manipuris, shared meals and their worries with each other.
With their tight-knit relationship as an example, he called for inter-community harmony, love and peace in Manipur.
Meanwhile, devastated parents of Nganthoi asked the people visiting the family to offer their condolences like their daughter was among them.
"We want our daughter, nothing else", they said in tears.
According to Nganthoi's family members, she was a student of DM College when she accompanied her sister for an Air India interview where she was selected.
She joined Air India in April, 2023, right before the outbreak of violence.
Meanwhile Nadeshkumar expressed grief and heartbreak that Air India had still not reached out with any news of their daughter.
While some family members have already reached Ahmedabad to claim the mortal remains of the young girl, Nganthoi's sister and uncle left for the tragedy-struck city today.
